Tradition
Even the Romans valued a relaxing bath. It was them that founded Zurich’s bathing tradition more than 2000 years ago in Turicum, as the city was then called. Remnants of the Roman baths can still be viewed at Thermengasse, near St. Peter Church.
The antique custom has also left its traces in Zurich’s modern-day wellness spas. These include the Roman-Irish spa ritual at “Thermalbad & Spa Zürich” (7), which is situated in the former halls of the Hürlimann brewery. Talking of beer: Fresh Zurich water also flows into the products of Zurich’s numerous micro-breweries. They’re well worth sampling – cheers!
CELEBRATIONS ON WATER AND ICE
Zurich’s rivers and lake aren’t just great for swimming and sourcing excellent drinking water, they also serve as the perfect backdrop for numerous special events. Film buffs can delight in open-air screenings at the Zürichhorn “Allianz Cinema” (8), at the “Filmfluss” film nights in Unterer Letten Lido and of course at the star-studded Zurich Film Festival. And there’s nothing quite like watching fireworks setting the sky ablaze above the lake on New Year's Eve, or as part of the “Züri Fäscht” or the triennial Seenachtfest Rapperswil-Jona – ideally from aboard a boat. But there’s also plenty of fun to be had on water in its solid form. Visit one
of Europe’s largest open-air ice rinks at Dolder Sports and give ice-skating a go yourself, or watch the pros of “Art on Ice” showcase their incredible skills! ls

   ALLES WASSER ODER WAS?!
